Thrissur Pooram Featival 2016 at Thekkinkad Maidan
Thrissur Pooram is one of the most popular temple festivals in Kerala and also a world famous festival. Thrissur Pooram held at Vadakkunnathan Temple every year on ‘Pooram’ day of the Malayalam Calendar month of ‘Medam’. ‘Pooram’ day is the day when the moon rises with the Pooram star.
The Fire works and Kudamattam are the most popular events in the Thrissur Pooram festival. Normally the fire works start in the early hours and the dazzling display last three to four hours.The two main groups of Thrissur – Thiruvambadi and Paramekkavu vying with each other in making the display of fireworks grander and more colourful. On this day, the images of the deities from all temples of the village are taken on elephants to the main temple. The climax of the festival is the exhibition of thirty elephants and the famous fireworks.
